Some souls need not die, in the human sense, to be translated.  John is said to have been one of those, and Yesu illustrated this by the taking up and disposing of (manifesting) the body and soul at will. Enoch was so translated to the next phase of  existence Gn 5:24, Si 44:16; Heb 11:5.

the author is here making explanation for the reason why certain upright people live but for a short time in the body before being whisked away to the other worlds.
