the mythological milieu in which this Scripture was conceived makes provision for the author to draw on the image of the concept of the serpent power (kundalini) which was seated in the lowest chakra from where, as the spirit evolves, it has to raise unto perfection. Egypt, having lost the ability to distinguish symbol from spiritual reality eventually worshipped the serpent itself instead of knowing it only for its symbolic value of healing and the raising of spiritual perfection.
